The Rotary Club of San Benito was organized on October 19, 1919 when a group of Rotarians from Brownsville, Texas boarded a train from Brownsville to San Benito to sponsor the newest Rotary Club in the young existence of Rotary Clubs of the day. Our club was organized as Club #558 as evidenced by an excerpt from the Rotarian Magazine, Volume 16, Page 45, published January 1920.
The following Rotary clubs have been elected to membership in the International Association of Rotary clubs since the last list was publisht(sic) in the December, 1919, issue: San Benito, Texas, Club No. 558. Special Representative, David L. Spero of Brownsville; president, W. G. B. Morrison; secretary, George A. Toolan.
We are in our 106th year of Service Above Self and look forward to many more to come.
